– President Donald Trump reached back into history and invoked authority under the 1950 Defense Production Act to ramp up production of medical supplies as doctors and nurses warn of shortages.It’s not exactly clear how the law will be applied, and Trump later stressed he only plans to use it in a “worst-case scenario.” But it’s a reminder that the President has a lot of emergency authority.
